Several users have reported this on different platforms (PowerBook G3, 
PowerMacintosh 7300).

This situation might arise if a user "zaps PRAM" on their mac, which will 
clear out the current date/time.  Also, when motherboard batteries die, 
the date is reset to either 1901 or 1956 (depending on model).

 Sorry it took so long to test.  Yes, the problem is still there.  I  
 netbooted a PowerMac 8500 with current date.  No problems.

 Set date to 1904, can still contact my home server (NFS, DNS, etc), but  
 nothing else.
 Set date to today, everything works fine.

Tested the issue on a G4 iBook running 8.0_RC1 & Pismo PowerBook G4 running 8.99.14, unable to reproduce.
PRAM battery on G3 Pismo was dead & upon boot system used the date from filesystem, I had to manually force 190101 before attempting to SSH, FTP & Telnet.
