>Environment:
Abnormal behaviour of ne(4) on a 'NetEasy by D-Link DRP-16CT' under a Generic kernel.
>Description:
When you try to configure, via ifconfig(8), the, NE-2000
compatible interface, DRP-16CT produced by 'NetEasy by
D-Link' (http://www.neteasy.de/produkte/nics/netpccard10/)
if you use a GENERIC kernel, that should be able to use
any recognized ne(4) interface, a deep system's block
appears; o yes not only a 'simple' kernel panic but a
complete block of the system..
>How-To-Repeat:
1) The NE-2000 interface DRP-16CT must be attached in your pcmcia card slot.
2) System starts with default installation conditions (for a 1.5 version).
3) root logs in
4) sets the address for ne2 interface typing:
#ifconfig ne2 inet 192.168.1.1 netmask 255.255.255.0
5)enjoy the system's block moreover if you now detach the card, a kernel panic appears.
>Fix:
To evade this problem is indispensable a new kernel, compiled with all "CardBus" options
enabled.
