>Description:
My Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS works quite well but volume controls are completely non-functional. Setting outputs.master, inputs.dac, outputs.master.mute, inputs.dac.mute in mixerctl is useless. The values will change and stay where they have been set but they do not change the actual output at all.

I have a ZS and see this problem too. I don't think that there's an easy
fix -- emuxki(4) uses ac97 mixers only; apparently, the ZS doesn't
use them. Proper Audigy support would require porting of FreeBSD's
 snd_emu10kx...
