>Description:
On my Asus F2F notebook no sound is produced when playing audio, just clicking noises.

azalia is recognized, but the codec isn't. See the following dmesg with AZALIA_DEBUG. It's missing the start because the buffer is too small and I was too lazy to make it bigger, but that shouldn't be a problem. mixerctl and audioctl output also follows below.

 How about "mixerctl -w outputs.unknown10.dir=output"?
 If your machine has hardware volume buttons,
 try to touch some of them.

 I don't seem to understand correctly. The direction is already output it is
 the default for bidi pins since a while. If tried it anyway:

 krille@seafood:~ > mixerctl -w outputs.unknown10.dir=output
 outputs.unknown10.dir: output -> output

 Nothing changes.

 It has mute and vol up/down, however they seem to be software (reached via
 Fn-{F10,F11,F12}). They don't seem to change anything.

 I updated to todays azalia_codec.c. It has different codec groups now, but I
 didn't notice other changes. Below is a new dmesg (including
 AZALIA_DEBUG_DOT this time) and mixerctl -av output.

 I noticed that if I do mixerctl -w inputs.mix1a.dac03.mut=on, then the
 noises on the headphone jack disappear and the output at the mic jack is
 only about half as loud than before. However the right channel is still
 silent. I wonder if they might have used a mono jack which simply can't pass
 the other channel.

 The headphones jack is black0f, mic seems to be black0d or perhaps black1f.

 Would you test azalia.c rev.1.49 or later?

 I had to patch the caddr_t stuff a little to get it compile since I haven't
 yet upgraded the system after this change was made.

 It turns out that nothing has changed. I also didn't see relevant dmesg
 changes (besides the Tab removal stuff).

 The audio is still played through the microphone jack. I'm quite convinced
 now that the right channel is missing because the hardware only has a mono
 jack. I couldn't get Windows to play through the microphone jack to further
 verify this, probably because one isn't supposed to do this because of the
 mono jack. The Windows microphone test also only reacts on blowing into the
 left channel.

 What's necessary to route the output through the headphones jack?

 My desktop machine once had the same problem, but it obviously has a stereo
 microphone jack, so this was less an issue there.

 I had a look, sounds cool.

 However I had problems trying it. Since this is still a NetBSD 5 box I crea=

 If you build a kernel based on MONOLITHIC instead of on GENERIC then you
 should be able to boot it without needing to do anything to /stand or
 /boot.

 Try using the MONOLITHIC kernel instead of GENERIC, you can boot one of
 those as-is (without having to worry about updating /stand and /boot).

 I'm sorry to report that it doesn't work.

 Unfortunately MONOLITHIC are't part of NetBSD-daily so I had to make one my=
 self as of wednesdays source. It would have been handy to be able to downlo=
 ad one.

 I disabled azalia using userconf, then used audioplay to play a wav file an=
 d cdplay to play a CD. Both ports are silent now. I think there were the us=
 ual noises on the headphones jack once, but I couldn't reproduce that. The =
 built-in speakers are also silent.

 Here's a mixerctl -av
 outputs.master=3D0,0 volume delta=3D256
 inputs.dac=3D0,0 volume delta=3D256
 inputs.beep=3D0,0 volume delta=3D256

 record.monitor=3D0,0 volume delta=3D256
 outputs.dacsel=3DDAC00,DAC01  { DAC00 DAC01 }
 record.source=3DADC02  { ADC02 }

 When setting all volumes to the maximum possible values I think there is so=
 mething to hear on the headphones jack. It's extremely silent and I can't t=
 ell if it's the expected audio or something else.

 Here's also the relevant part of dmesg:

 I hope I didn't forget anything, since it has been some time from when I tr=

 BTW: From the dmesg output it looks that the analog CD input first runs thr=

 layed through an dac. Is this true? Has it always been that way?
