>Description:

	On an Asus M3A-H/HDMI board (AMD 780G + SB700 chipset), a
netbsd-5 kernel has problems talking to the SATA disk when the
SATA chip is set to IDE compat mode (which is the default, see
	<http://www.spg.tu-darmstadt.de/~hf/asus-m3a-h/>):

Boot netbsd-5 on an Asus N3A-H board with SATA disk.

In case it matters here, NetBSD has ACPI issues on this board,
	see PR 39671.

>Fix:

Workaround: In the BIOS setup, set "OnChip SATA Type" to "AHCI".

The board works fine in the default settings with a FreeBSD 7
pre-release kernel from a PCBSD DVD, btw.

  	I saw a similar error on a Jetway NC81 ITX 780G based
motherboard - the machine would hang under reasonable disk
load, and had to use the same workaround.

  	Just a datapoint.

I had a similar problem with a 790GX (the system from PR 39671).

There were no problems when I installed NetBSD, because I changed the
settings to AHCI before installing it.
But at one point I changed it to SATA and then the FIRST disk (wd0) had problems.
The second disk (wd1) had no problem (except for the point where wd0 was marked
as failed in the raid set). wd2 was also in the system, but I had no partition
on it so I can't be sure that everything was ok, but there were no errors from
 wd2.
