>Description:
When using multiple harddrives with different configurations, it
is imperative that HDToolBox be given the correct data, or it
may not properly format any given HD. This is irrespective of
any ToolType which identifies the SCSI device.

HDToolbox creates a working file which has drive specs in it.
Every time HDToolBox is started, it rereads this permanent file.

If two different HD's are used with different specs, this will
cause HDToolBox to use the wrong drive specs for one of them,
but it does not warn the user that it is reusing this spec
	file.

Consequently, all of HDToolBox's functions work properly, but
miscalculate HD layouts if the real drive doesn't match the
specs in the permanent spec file. (see note in comp.unix.amiga
	for name of file)

>How-To-Repeat:
Requires two HD's with different geometries/layouts/specs.
For example: 327MB Quantum HD and 511MB DEC HD, and using
GVP and WordSync controllers, and two copies of the
HDToolBox program, each with the approrpiate ToolType setting
	for the particular drive/controller.

Set up HDToolBoxes for each drive (seperate copies).
Use HDToolBox to format one drive.
Use HDToolBox to format the other drive (using other copy
	of HDToolBox).

Assuming that the HDToolBox "permanent file" contained the
specs for one of these drives before beginning, then one
of the drives will now use the layout specs stored in said
file, and HDToolBox will miscalculate that HD's physical
	layout.

>Fix:
Before doing ANY formatting, use the option to define/set the
TYPE of drive. Delete the old/existing data, and select the
option to re-read the HD. This will ensure that the correct
formatting data is used by HDToolBox. OK back to the main menu,
and continue with whatever formatting process is necessary.

State-Changed-Why:
This sound bogus to me.
For all HDTOOLBOXes I have experienced (OS 2.04 and 3.1), it was
perfectly able to deal with multiple drives.

All I needed to do was to
- run it from the sasme directory always (e.g., launch it from the
Workbench, or cd to sys: before starting it from a CLI)
- before doing anything else with a new disk, make HDTOOLBOX read the drive
parameters from the drive after klicking something like "define new drive",
then, setting the new drives type to the drivetype just created.

Doesnt this work for you? What is your HDTOOLBOX / native OS version?

State-Changed-Why:
A short note about the problem has been added.
(The installation docs already referred the users to their own HDTOOLBOX manual
for details of the HDTOOLBOX operation.)
