>Description:
os/arch/ver triplet generated in pkg_add does not match the triplet generated during package creation. Example:
pkg_add: Warning: package `tnftp-20070806' was built for a platform:
pkg_add: AIX/0024fc004c00 4.1.5.0 (pkg) vs. AIX/powerpc 1 (this host)
pkg_add: 1 package addition failed
Likely due to AIX's atypical results from uname -m and uname -r. In the above example, I would expect the triplet to be "AIX/powerpc 4.1.5.0". The correct information is evidently obtained in various places, it's just not being done consistently.

Yes, this appears to be the same issue as PR 29386.
This bug goes back 5 years. If I were to look over the suggestions mention=
ed in the prior thread and submit patches, would there be someone willing t=
o review? Joerg's been doing a great job on the other AIX stuff I sent rec=
ently.

The real question is if there is any library function to get the CPU
type / CPU family.

Given the large number of places that uname info is needed in devel/bmake a=
nd pkgtools/*, would it be worthwhile to centralize and normalize it in a u=
tility function and script? If so, I imagine such a change would merit bro=
ader discussion on tech-pkg or something.

As far as I have been able to determine, no, there is not.
