NetBSD ruka.studiolab45.net 5.0 NetBSD 5.0 (GENERIC) #0: Sun Apr 26 22:53:55 UTC 2009 builds@b4.netbsd.org:/home/builds/ab/netbsd-5-0-RELEASE/macppc/200904260229Z-obj/home/builds/ab/netbsd-5-0-RELEASE/src/sys/arch/macppc/compile/GENERIC macppc

>Description:
When booting the GENERIC kernel on NetBSD 5.0 on a third-generation iMac (slot-loading model), there is a problem with the ieee1394if device, as shortly after the start of booting the kernel displays a message about a problem with the bus on this device, then the kernel detects the devices on the IDE buses and then freezes. This problem did not exist in previous NetBSD releases.
>How-To-Repeat:
Simply boot the system normally.
>Fix:
A workaround is to boot the kernel with the -c option and disable the ieee1394if* device (number 203 in the userconfig list). Building a custom kernel with the same device disabled will also make it work. Unfortunately this means that FireWire support is disabled.
