>Description:
When using
hosts: files nis dns
in /etc/nsswitch.conf, firefox (in this case, 3.5.5) initially starts with the first tab OK, subsequent pages do not open. The program is responsive, but the dns query never returns.
>How-To-Repeat:
Configure a system to use 'files nis dns' for name resolution and try to use firefox...
>Fix:
I avoid the problem by periodically synchronizing my /etc/hosts file with the NIS yphosts database, then using 'files dns' for name resolution.

I have the same problem on my i386 and I can also resolve it
by removing 'nis' from nsswitch.conf.
Probably it only happens when both ypserv(8) and named(8) are
running on the local host?

Is this still a problem? Firefox has ... changed a bit.
(also, does anything else fail or is it just firefox?)

1-year feedback timeout.
Assume a 2010 problem with firefox is no longer relevant.
