State-Changed-When: Thu, 26 Jul 2012 01:19:51 +0000
State-Changed-Why:
I don't entirely understand what you're talking about. NetBSD does not
have db4 in base (/usr); furthermore, db4 is a specific thing produced
by Sleepycat (now owned by Oracle) and not anyone else; and to the best
of my knowledge W. Richard Stevens never wrote a competing implementation.
There is also no db(4) man page as suggested under How-To-Repeat:.

Can you explain further what you mean?

Do you mean the 24KB db.c borrowed from Advanced Programming for UNIX
 sources?

If so, that is neither compatible to the db(3) we have, nor to db4,
and it only seems to support the hash method... Also, I have no idea
 of its license.

The submitter sent the following to the gnats administrator address
 instead of gnats-bugs:

Ahm there is disagreement about whether W. Richard Stevens
wrote a faster implem, entation of db(4) which he has proven.
The operator for gnats was rude and denies this.

Nobody has denied anything; they asked for clarification, which you
 have not provided.

 Please explain the following:

   - why you are filing a NetBSD bug base system report about Berkeley
     DB 4.x, which is not in the NetBSD base system;

   - what software written by W. Richard Stevens you are talking about,
since he did not implement Berkeley DB, either version 4 or any
     other version;

   - what problem you are having.

Ok no he said specifically that W Richard Stevens never wrote a competeing
db4 bugfix to db. I boldly claimed he wrote a faster version lightweight
that solves the bug. Which can be proven laboriously but I thought
I might be able to bluster my way through. If it has to be done
I will do it. Run the tests again. The headers can be exanded to
make life easier and more configurable library use. I am also interested
in this. I just have a W. Richard Stevens bee in my bonnet. Leave it just
as a generally facetious comment thats fine i will keep the source
myself and if it ever get attention thats good.

I believe it should be moved out of pkgsrc but not sleepycat oracle db4.
It should be the above mentioned method. That is my argument. oracle db4 is
GPL i want db4 back under BSD license GNU have nothing to do with it.
Oracle are my problem not NetBSD. The opportunity lies with the db4 version
provided by W Richard Stevens. As you know a name in better standing.

 I'm not sure I understand.

Do you have a db4 rewrite under a more permissive license than oracle db4?

If yes, please provide a pkgsrc package for it.

 If not, please explain more.

 Thanks,

This PR seems to be asking for us to reimplement db4, which is both not
