Machine has 4G of physical ram and 4G swap

I haven't tried building on the target i386 machine which is an
eeepc 900 running off of a usb drive due to speed and space issues.

If this message is accurate then the compilation isn't going to fit
 into a 32-bit machine.

Question is whether it's kde bloat or compiler bugs causing it...

It just started doing that last January. I had built it several
times under i386 in the 6-9 months before. I tried it on 3 different
i386 platforms (and versions of NetBSD i386) and they all failed
the same way - attempting to allocate all of ram.

I have no idea what changed to cause this.

Note that this package did not go out of memory on NetBSD 6/i386 in
the latest build. (Instead, it failed to install because ktalkd was
 not built):

This appears to still be an issue, after about 10 months after the
initial report. I no longer have a way to test this build on an
i386 system but it continues to fail in precisely the same manner
 under amd64 using pkg_comp with i386 sets.

 NetBSD tiamat 7.99.25 NetBSD 7.99.25 (GENERIC) #1: Thu Jan 21 12:29:41 EST 2016

Both amd64 and i386 builds are using the identical sources

Any other thoughts on why this started failing to build circa fall 2014 or
how to fix it so it build once again?
