My attempt at fixing it:
This functionality (H.264) is provided by GStreamer.
Can be simply tested using the following URL: https://www.youtube.com/html5

GStreamer was built with Firefox, --enable-gstreamer=1.0 appears in about:buildconfig.

 of them are not needed for HTML5 videos; I have compiled this list
 after trying various web sites with multimedia contents using a
 webkit-gtk based browser but if Firefox uses gstreamer1 it will be
 probably the same):

 Hello, it's working now! 

 Sorry for the late reply, I have had some trouble installing the 
 packages mentioned by leot using pkgsrc-current, but thanks to the 
 fix to pkg/50447 they are working, and H.264 video is, as well.
