The metapackage exists in pkgsrc; if it's not available for download
as a binary package, that probably means that some piece of kde4
failed to compile.
Not being able to install *any* of kde4 at that point unless you
happen to know what the individual pieces are named is... not the
ideal outcome :(

Stale bug report. kde4 as a meta-pkg does exist, it must've failed at the time. It might even fail now, but keeping a bug for "kde4 might be broken at any point at time" is strange.
kde4 is at some risk of re-breaking at any point because of dependencies being updated.
Sorry your bug was not addressed at the time.

Well. The point was that there should be a way to set up metapackages
so that you still get most of the install from them even if some
pieces are broken.
But probably that should be a separate explicit PR.
