The messages logged to the console by /etc/rc are not ALL present in the detailed log file /var/run/rc.log
>How-To-Repeat:
Temporarily remove usr/bin/fmt.
Arrange for one or more of the /etc/rc.d scripts to return '1' (e.g., remove the swap partition from fstab(5))
Reboot.
Compare the messages displayed on the console against those logged in /var/run/rc.log.
The console output will include "fmt: not found" but the rc.log won't.
