NetBSD 8.99.4 macppc
>Description:
I have a connection over firewire between a Thinkpad x60s running 8.99.4 i386 & a G4 Mac Mini running 8.99.4 macppc.

pinging the interface on the macppc from i386 host after configuring an address on the fwip interface and marking it up both ends, results in the following message being recorded on the macppc host:
ieee1394if0: len(0) != send.pay_len(88) WREQQ(0)

tcpdump -i fwip0 on the macppc host shows replies going out of the fwip intferface but nothing is received on the i386 host which is also running tcpdump.

There is nothing reported as such by the kernel on the i386 host.
>How-To-Repeat:
macppc:
ifconfig fwip0 10.1.1.1/24 up

i386:
ifconfig fwip0 10.1.1.2/24 up
ping 10.1.1.1

check the kernel messages in dmesg output or /var/log/messages

Tested on 2 macppc hosts, one running 8.0_RC1 & the other running
8.99.19, able to ping and ssh to the 8.0_RC1 host from the 8.99.19 host
 without issue.

 Now to revisit i386 again.

Likely a local issue and not NetBSD-wide.

issue is because the fwip interface has an address of all zeros. This is
most likely a fall out from the system being flashed with coreboot and
not NetBSD related, though I do not have another system with identical
hardware to test to rule out coreboot.
