>Description:
The installer from the bootable USB image shows a faint, barely visible dark gray micro-font on a black screen, making installation impossible.
This is not the first time I try NetBSD on this laptop, and I've never had a problem (at least with the installer) when you stuck to the standard VGA console. If it worked, why break it?
>How-To-Repeat:
Try installing NetBSD/amd64 7.1.1 on an Acer Aspire 5100 (AMD Turion64, ATi Radeon Xpress 1100 integrated graphics card). It's an old laptop from 2006.

Can you please try to enter boot(8) pressing a key, `Drop to boot
prompt' and then `boot -c' (to drop at userconf(4) prompt) and
in userconf:
uc> find radeon*
[420] radeon* at pci? dev ? function ?
uc> find radeondrmkmsfb*
[421] radeondrmkmsfb* at radeonfbbus?
uc> disable 420
[420] radeon* disabled
uc> disable 421
[421] radeondrmkmsfb* disabled
uc> quit
This is just a workaround to disable `drmkms' but probably will
make installation possible.

That works, thank you. But, if I were to install NetBSD, would I need to
enter those commands at every boot?

Yes, drmkms is always used when possible AFAIK (at least on GENERIC
kernel).
Once NetBSD is installed these commands can be put in `/boot.cfg'
though.
