For starting X on the machine with the dmesg below I have to first add
the appropriate firmware to /libexec/firmware (I'll commit that shortly).
After that starts up, but the display just shows a white background with
some randomly distributed dots in pink and light greens.

Starting an xterm doesn't change the output.

 I don't have the card any longer, so I can't test any changes. Feel
 free to close if you want (though I'm pretty sure the problem is still
 there).
