>Description:
Today I tried installing NetBSD, with a fresh (USB) install image, from the daily snapshots ( http://nycdn.netbsd.org/pub/NetBSD-daily/netbsd-10 ).
It seemed that kernel moved on a little longer, and it just stopped (not crashed/core-dumped, just hung there) on the nouveau initialization.

Then, I remembered seeing this some time ago: https://nouveau.freedesktop.org/NetBSD.html
So, selecting [2] on the boot menu and then typing:

userconf disable nouveau
boot netbsd

Guess what? The kernel booted successfully and then I saw the first screen of the installer.
So UEFI boot, with nouveau on nvidia GT 1030 is a no-go for me... 🙁

Is this a known issue?
>How-To-Repeat:
Just boot the NetBSD installer from a usb stick using UEFI with a NVIDIA GT 1030.

it's not yet pulled up to the netbsd-10 branch.

Hi,
I tried again today using a daily snapshot from current (10.99.2 - March 07=
).
I noticed that kernel still stucks in a frozen state and the screen now get=
s corrupted:
About one third from the bottom of the screen is mostly filled with blue (i=
nstaller) color, with some random white pixels here and there. The upper two=
thirds of the screen, show the kernel boot messages in frozen state.

Screen remains stuck, so UEFI boot with nouveau is still broken. I think th=
is needs more work.

Regards,
Vassilis

i see this myself`with -current, a 1030 and a ryzen 3600.

it's actually mostly working behind the scenes and if you blind
login, you can run X11, and if you exit X11 the console comes
back properly draw. one workaround would be to run xdm or another
display manager automatically.

it's very odd, and i havenm't started looking at when it has
started happen for me, but yes, more to do here.

thanks.

Actually, I don't have netbsd installed in this machine, so I cannot test b=
lind login right now. I am afraid that I have to get through the installer =
and that seems impossible with a broken console... :(
As a workaround, I guess that I could temporary disable nouveau from the bo=
otloader, install netbsd and then (after a reboot) try the blind login as y=
ou suggested. But all this, sounds too much hassle todo, just to test, LOL.=
 8)

TBH, I have not used netbsd for a couple of years, but I would like to make=
a comeback with the release of 10.0 (whenever that would be), as long as I=
have a full working system for daily use (with graphics hardware accelerat=
ion).

Anyway thanks for your reply.

For me (also ryzen + nouveau), using a serial console also acts as a
workaround.

yes - serial console seems to avoid the uefi vs drm issue
for all the cards (same for me on amdgpu and radeon.)
