When wpa_supplicant starts, it logs spurious error messages like this:

Apr 2 03:56:18 nanocons wpa_supplicant[13476]: ioctl[SIOCG80211, op=16, arg_len=0]: Inappropriate ioctl for device

There appears to be no actual problem here -- I think it's just that wpa_supplicant is trying to apply 802.11 ioctls to non-802.11 network interfaces. But it is harmful because it gives the misapprehension of buggy software and contributes to warning fatigue.

This is not a "kern" problem, but a bug in wpa_supplicant, isn't it?

 Martin
