	cmp -s will print a message to stderr if one of the files does
not exist.  Although the man page is ambiguous on this point, I
believe that -s should cause cmp to be silent.  This is the case on
irix 5.2, irix 5.3, sunos 4.1.4, and hpux 10.10, which are the other
platforms I happen to be logged in on right now.
