NetBSD install "sees" the Compaq Netelligent PCI Ethernet card, correctly says to what bus it is attached, but does not recognize that is uses the TI Thunderlan chipset and therefore does not configure it as device tl0.

 Hallo Manuel,

Here is the nbsd 2.0 installer dmesg output concerning the captioned
 adapter:

vendor 0x0e11 product 0xb012 (miscellaneous network, revision 0x10) at
 pci0 dev 10 function 10 not configured

Additionally, the nbsd 2.0 installer does not configure the following 2
 devices:

vendor 0x8086 product 0x7113 (miscellaneous bridge, revision 0x02) at
 pci0 dev 4 function 3 not configured

vendor 0x1274 product 0x1371 (audio multimedia, revision 0x06) at pci0
dev 9 function 0 not configured

 Suggestions?

 Greetings,

 Lux

OK, thanks. Can you try the attached patch ? It should get it working

It's possible the installer doesn't have drivers for those (the installer has
no audio device driver) but once installed, the GENERIC kernel will be
 able to use them

Thanks, Manuel. Please confirm that you suggest I procede as follows:

 1. install nbsd 2.0 from CD without support of the above card
 2. cvs latest sources
 3. patch the files as indicated above
 4. configure, build and install a new kernel
 5. boot new kernel, see if card configured
 6. report back here

Is there a way to test this without step 1., i.e. without installation?
 If so, how please?

 Greetings,

 Lux

 hi,
sorry for the late reply, but I got troubles building a release.
Anyway, it's done: so you have a NetBSD-current release available (including
boot floppies) built with the patches, at:
 ftp://asim.lip6.fr/outgoing/i386/

You can use it to test my patches on your hardware.

 Bonsoir Manuel,

Everything went well with the install of 2.99.16 except that I had to
get the X sets from another site and opted for 2.0.

For my side we can close the case.

However, hope you can answer some ancillary questions:

 1. Which sources should I cvs to keep up to date but avoid hazardous
 experiments?

 2. When installing packages from 2.0, pkg_add keeps rightly shouting at
me about the version mismatch between 2.0 and 2.99.16. How could I
 resolve this?

 3. How can I config X for the wheel mouse? xf86config does not ask
 about this.

BTW nbsd 2.0 is fast on my old i686 dual-processor box. Nice to work with.

Tks again for your quick and effective help.

 Best regards,

 Lux

 Yes, I didn't build X11.

I'll commit this and close the PR once I'm back in paris, in about 2 weeks.

You probably want the netbsd-2 branch.

I don't have a solution right now, exept rebuilding packages.
pkg_add will complain if the 2 versions don't match, where it
should probably complain only if the package is built on a newer version
than the one running. But this is probably something that should be disussed
 with the pkg peoples.

I have this in my XF86Config file:
 Section "InputDevice"
         Identifier "Mouse0"
         Driver "mouse"
         Option "Protocol" "wsmouse"
         Option "Device" "/dev/wsmouse"
         Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
 EndSection

 Hello Manuel,

Did your support for the card get included in 2.02? Have read the
on-line docs but found no reference to such an inclusion.

If it is included, I could get back to tracking a standard release.

 Thanks and best regards,

it's not in 2.0.2-release, but has beeen pulled up to the netbsd-2-0 branch
later. A kernel from /pub/NetBSD-daily/netbsd-2-0/ should have it.
