You _may_ have more luck with an ACPI based kernel - (if you do
not already have one). For reference the below is an ACPI based
kernel in a thinkpad T41p, with wi card:

I do use an ACPI based kernel. However the T41 uses a TI cardbus bridge:

 > cbb0 at pci2 dev 0 function 0: Texas Instruments PCI4520 PCI-CardBus Bridge w/ IEEE 1394 Host Controller (rev. 0x01)
 > cbb1 at pci2 dev 0 function 1: Texas Instruments PCI4520 PCI-CardBus Bridge w/ IEEE 1394 Host Controller (rev. 0x01)

 The T43 uses:

 cbb0 at pci4 dev 0 function 0: Ricoh 5C476 PCI-CardBus bridge (rev. 0x8d) (chipflags 2)

 the T43 has one Cardbus/PCMCIA slot and one Express-Card slot. I don't
know how the latter is attached.

 Greetings,

The cardbus bridge works fine with Knoppix, but the linux
kernel choses only some "free" 12bit address ranges instead
 of a 16bit address at 0x4000.

Forcing our code to chose a 12bit address with

 options RBUS_IO_BASE=0xa00
 options RBUS_IO_SIZE=0x0ff

 makes PCMCIA cards work again.
