Contrary to what the man page says, printf(3) doesn't support %ls.
Newer versions of nvi happen to use this missing feature in a couple of places,
leading to some screen output being erased.

Sorry, no patch. Maybe the code can be stolen from the wide-character version
of printf() in vfwprintf.c, but I'm not near enough familiar with it to even
give it a try.
