Some platforms (older Solaris, I think - IRIX at least) lack setenv/unsetenv functions - and so devel/check fails to build at the link-stage, where these symbols aren't defined.
Adding 'USE_FEATURES=nbcompat' to the pkgsrc Makefile fixed this for me :)
