>Description:
The current Ubuntu shell (version 3.2.13(1), version 3.2.25(1), ...) has some bug. Due to this the impossible to build /bin/sh in cross-compiling mode on at least Ubuntu 7.04 and 7.10.

The problem was also discussed a few months ago, but it still isn't resolved in proper way.

Subject: PR/39786 CVS commit: src/bin/sh
Date: Thu, 23 Oct 2008 20:21:57 +0000 (UTC)

 Module Name:	src
 Committed By:	apb
 Date: Thu Oct 23 20:21:57 UTC 2008

 Modified Files:
 	src/bin/sh: mkinit.sh

 Log Message:
Don't try to remove trailing newlines from shell variables via
constructs like ${var%$nl}. Apparently this allows the Ubuntu Linux
/bin/sh (dash) to be used as a host shell during the build.
Patch from PR 39786 by Andy Shevchenko.
