This machine has a firewire hub and a firewire dvd multiformat burner
attached to it.

Same hang occours with no firewire devices attached.

I think this is actually a firewire problem, if i boot without acip,
and then attach aditional firewire devices or remove the dvd drive the machine hangs.

If i boot with -c and disable fwohci at pci it gets further in the boot but
can't mount root due to lost sata interrupts:

In that case, please check if "show event" has any wildly increasing
interrupt counters. Also please provide the DSDT (acpidump).

Unfortunatly some of the capacitors on this motherboard have blown, i have
replacements but havn't had a chance to solder them on.

I'll try to do so in the next few weeks.

 motherboard now repaired.

With a 5.1_RC4 generic kernel it still has the satalink lost interrupt
messages, however if the machine is left alone for a long time it does get
 into sysinst eventually.

 With http://ftp.netbsd.org/pub/NetBSD/misc/snj/acpi/netbsd-5-i386.bz2 it
also has the satalink lost interrupt messages

 With:

 http://nyftp.netbsd.org/pub/NetBSD-daily/HEAD/201010220000Z/i386/binary/kernel/netbsd-MONOLITHIC.gz

it has the satalink lost interrupt messages as well.
