>Description:
I just upgraded this machine from 4.0.1 to 5.0.1 thus switched over from XFree86 X11R6 to xorg X11R7. To configure my X server, I used "X -configure," moved the /root/xorg.conf.new to /etc/X11/xorg.conf and tried to start xdm. The screen went blank and I could not get it to come back, not even switching to other virtual terminals. I went to another machine and sshed in. Just running X showed the following output:
superman# X
X.Org X Server 1.4.2
Release Date: 11 June 2008

/usr/X11R7/lib/modules/drivers//tdfx_drv.so: Undefined PLT symbol "TDFXDRIScreenInit" (symnum = 162)
I checked my old X11R6 X server configuration file and it said it was using the same driver (tdfx).
To work around the problem, I'm putting a different video display adapter in the PC but I'd like to eventually switch it back. Of course, I can put this card in another machine for testing, if necessary.
>How-To-Repeat:
In a system with a Voodoo 3 video card in it, try running the X server.
