I've been trying this with MAKE_JOBS=6 (on a 4 CPU machine).
Compilation sometimes breaks like above, while at other times it succeeds.
Apparently with MAKE_JOBS=1 it always succeeds.

Stale bug report. The current makefile logic for alpha/osf doesn't seem very different from other architectures. nobody has complained about MAKE_JOBS failing on newer versions. If there are still problems please report a new bug. Sorry your bug was not addressed at the time.
