 Hi Cjep,

Unfortunately can't right now as my Alpha kit is tucked away in a
 corner 1000 miles away.

However with this rate of response it's simply not viable to do this.
The kit is huge, loud, and expensive to run so if I'd drag it out into
the middle of my room and managed to fire it up without tripping the
circuit breakers we'd better have a few developers lined up to fix the
PRs quickly as they come up. There would be plenty to fix. I've filed
a flurry of PRs back in the day when I've first attempted a bootstrap
and didn't even get 10% of the way of compiling pkgsrc before I got
stuck. These are my memories from many years ago.

It'd be nice to keep pkgsrc on Tru64 alive though as that pretty much
means keeping Tru64 alive as a viable OS.

Thank you for caring about Tru64/AXP!

 Kind regards,

 Sab

We=E2=80=99d love to keep it alive if we can. Unfortunately we don=E2=80=99=
t have anyone with test kit at the moment, so it is difficult to test. =
The other option would be to get it working on an emulator somehow.

Are you ok if I close this PR in the meantime? Even if we get a Tru64 =
box, we=E2=80=99ll need to start from scratch with the latest
 bootstrap.

 Kind regards
 Chris

 Hi Chris,

Obviously it'd have to be a pkgsrc many years more recent if we'd try
again. I understand your intent of cleaning up old stale PRs, however
 I've got two questions:

1.) Will these PRs remain accessible by searching for closed PRs?
Some of the hints recorded in them might help solving issues even
with much newer versions of software as the Tru64 side is pretty
much the same as it was a few years ago?

2.) Will closing these PRs mean that Tru64 as a consideration
will sink from the conscious into oblivion?

 Thanks,

 Sab

The PRs are accessible even if they are closed.
We do not intend to drop support for Tru64 - the problem is we need some =
 way of working on it.
I do not intend to remove any logic from the pkgsrc tree.
 Kind regards
 Chris

 Hi Chris,

Would you possibly go as far as to file a PR saying there's
need for a Tru64 environment to work in? I'd then look into
options, and possibly others would, too. I know there are
Alpha enthusiasts out there, possibly with a lot more free
 time than I have.

As far as I'm concerned feel free to close those old Tru64 PRs
I've filed as you see fit.

 Thanks,

 Sab

State-Changed-From-To: feedback->closed
State-Changed-By: cjep@NetBSD.org
State-Changed-When: Tue, 09 Feb 2021 20:54:33 +0000
State-Changed-Why:
Difficult to reproduce without an environment to test this on.
If we can get an environment to build on, we will be able to look at this
and the boostrap issues.

If you can provide us an environment we might be able to put some time =
 on it.
I=E2=80=99ll shut the PR for now. All the best, Chris
