The following picture is self explanatory.
It contains negative values of start sectors and sizes in the partitioning stage ... there's apparently signed integer (32bit) used for the sizes and positions. It still somehow works, but somebody should check, if sizes over 2TB can be handled by NetBSD correctly.

I would very much prefer it wasn't pulled up since I encountered one of
the cases where 9.1 can't be installed with sysinst while 8.2 can.

It is in netbsd-9 and a pullup to -8 at this stage is ... unlikely.
