I downloaded the i386 CD-image of NetBSD 5.1 and tried installing it in VirtualBox 4.0.04 r70112 on Ubuntu 10.04 for amd64. When booting from the CD, it halts leaving the message:

uvm_fault(0xc0b82a00, 0, 1) -> 0xe
fatal page fault in supervisor mode
trap type 6 code 0 eip c0100d27 cs 8 eflags 10002 cr2 2 ilevel 1

Stopped in pid 0.17 (system) at netbsd:Xspllower+0x17: addb %al,0(%eax)

The VirtualBox installation comes from the VirtualBox repository for my distribution:

Responsible-Changed-Why:
problem occurs booting on virtualbox.

(did the previous set of virtualbox issues ever get sorted out? Is this
expected to work?)

 From watching the discussions on IRC, I think VirtualBox 3.0 is supposed to
 work. No guarantees though.

 I think we need some sort of policy or guideline about how to deal with
 these numerous emulators -- and their flaws. Many of the issues I've seen
 touch code sections that are highly sensitive to causing regressions for
 real hardware.

State-Changed-Why:
Stale bug report. The dmesg picture is not available. I've previously used virtualbox with netbsd, so I suspect the problem was fixed in the long time since this bug report. It's possible there's a problem with an old version of virtualbox, but I doubt that someone will be interested in using old versions of virtualbox.

Please do re-report if you experience issues with netbsd with virtualbox or in any other circumstances. THanks.
