can you try a kernel without est? maybe boot -c and "disable est"
will work. that requires -current. for netbsd-5, there's a kernel
option ENHANCED_SPEEDSTEP to disable.
thanks.

the netbsd-5 kernel without ENHANCED_SPEEDSTEP and BIOS setting
Extended APIC <Disable>
is working. Thank you!

Now I also tested current. Booting the current kernel with disabled est0
results in a system reboot before any output.

As time is limited, can we get any more information about this issue with
-current a.k.a. soon-to-be 6.0? To begin with, the default boot does what?

I tested the current install media with the default configuration. The
only change was to disable est0 in the INSTALL configuration file.
I can see the bootmanger but not any kernel output. After starting the
kernel the system reboots. So I can't say any more.

Just a note: NetBSD does not support x2APIC, a.k.a. "extended APIC", so this
is kind of expected [1]. This is in my TODO list too.
- Jukka.
[1] The x2APIC "support" was only "implemented" based on Xen emulation, cf.

The server was scrapped so that I can perform no farther tests. The PR can
be closed.
