Item "Enable installation of binary packages" of post-installation menu "Configure the additional items as needed." seems don't work properly, possibly because of unnecessary "http://" prefix. Here is my settings and status output:

c: Package directory /sparc/6.0/All
d: User ftp
e: Password
f: Proxy

Status: Command failed
Command: pkg_add http://ftp.NetBSD.org/pub/pkgsrc/packages/NetBSD/sparc/6.0/

Hit enter to continue

The command being run is correct and it works if you have network connectivity
and a working name server.

I assume the networking previously worked for retrieving the NetBSD
sets.
If you suspend from sysinst, does /targetroot/etc/resolv.conf exist?

This problem is not sparc-specific; it happens when attempting to
install the amd64 version of 6.1.2.
To answer Jeremy C. Reed's question: yes, I was able to install a set
(syssrc) via the network. After this error (unable to do the pkg_add
of pkgin as reported by the orignal poster), I exited from the install
system, got to a shell and was able to ping ftp.netbsd.org.

Recently I've got back to NetBSD research and got the same problem at 6.1.5-
i386 install.

# ls /targetroot
prints nothing, it's an empty folder.
