I am unsure about fixing historical documents.
I agree that spellings should be correct. I don't know what to do. Any
other thoughts?
That title document also mispells Carla Shapiro which is
probably Shapreau.
(I have a list of misspelled names from historical BSD documents.)

They are just typos like any other. It's not like they witness some
important historical/regional phonetic change in diachrnoic
development.
My favorite example is this fix from imp@ (iirc):
- . if "\\$1"2" .ds ]W 2rd Berkeley Distribution
+ . if "\\$1"2" .ds ]W 2nd Berkeley Distribution
How do you even read "2rd"? "Turd"? :)
