System: NetBSD pcwork3 1.4.2_ALPHA NetBSD 1.4.2_ALPHA (PCWORK3) #5: Tue Jan 4 20:11:35 MET 2000 root@radix:/usr/src/sys/arch/i386/compile/PCWORK3 i386

The actually used GNU tar version in NetBSD cannot handle 2k
	date specifications.
tar --newer "Mon Jan 24 03:05:02 MET 2000" -cvf t.tar test

	yields a

tar: invalid date format `Mon Jan 24 03:05:02 MET 2000'
Upgrade GNU tar at least to version 1.12

 Just to mention it:
Such an upgrade would also fix any problems with handling files >2GB, as
was noted by the GNU Tar maintainers (see mail below). The problem is also
 described in PR 9248.

If you have a fix for the problem, I'd appreciate a short notice.

Thanks for your bug report. The problem described should be fixed
since tar-1.13 which is available at any mirror site.

We have fixed many bugs since tar-1.13 and I think you should consider
using the tar-1.13.17 which is available at

We're currently working on getting tar-1.14 out. Please don't forget
to upgrade to this stable version as soon as it is available.
