System: NetBSD mildred 0.9 MILDRED#4 i386

Machine: i386

>Description:

The 'make install' step copies the boot block images to the target
directory /usr/mdec. If the directory does not exist, the operation
fails.

>How-To-Repeat:

I am building a version of NetBSD-current in an empty chrooted directory.
This directory, which is normally created by the system
installation disks, was not present (of course).

The sequence of activities I followed went like this:
Make an empty directory.
Copy/move the /usr/src branch into it.
Chroot into it.
From another session, copy enough essential executables to allow
compilation and installation of the sources.
At /usr/src/sys/arch/i386/boot, 'make install' fails.

This problem can also occur if $DESTDIR is set.

State-Changed-From-To: open->analyzed
State-Changed-By: jtc
State-Changed-When: Fri Jan 14 14:49:04 1994
State-Changed-Why:
This is really a problem with the proper directory heirarchy for a
distribution not being set up. Some work has been done with mtree
and the Makefile in src/Makefile, that should make it unecessary
for any Makefile to make it's target directory.

State-Changed-From-To: analyzed->closed
State-Changed-By: jtc
State-Changed-When: Thu Jan 27 18:57:32 1994
State-Changed-Why:
Mtree is now used to create distribute directory hierarchy and
BSD.usr.dist contains an entry for /usr/mdec.
