NetBSD pirri 10.0 NetBSD 10.0 (GENERIC) #12: Wed Aug 28 11:34:43 CEST 2024 roddy@pirri:/usr/obj/sys/arch/amd64/compile/GENERIC amd64
>Description:
I'm running NetBSD on a laptop with Intel Ice Lake graphics card. According to the docs, NetBSD supports up to Tiger Lake, and I believe my card is older.
When I boot the laptop it hangs at the beginning, before asking user credentials. The screen goes black and system unresponsive.
I blindly press space and type "reboot" and the system reboots. So it seems to panic, but not sure.
If I disable i915drmkms module, the system boots fine but with a slow generic framebuffer. I'd like to use drm for the desktop.
I cloned linux-firmware git repo and installed the blob. According to logs it seems to load the firmware, but a bunch of error appears after.
I built current kernel and the same thing happens.
This is the firmware blob, and the dmidecode output:
```
>Description:
I'm facing a similar problem on my Dell XPS 13 7390 2-in-1 with i7-1065g7.
000:02:0: Intel product 8a52 (VGA display, revision 0x07)
I investigated an earlier crash dump. After GT initialization failed,
the cleanup path destroyed rps->power.mutex.
Then framebuffer initialization attempted to lock that mutex in
intel_rps_mark_interactive(), resulting in fatal page fault.
After applying the patch below, I can start ctwm and glxgears can utilize my gpu.
Wow! This absolutely makes my own Ice Lake GT1 IGPU work! Before, it would
blank the screen and drop into the debugger, and I'd have to type
<SPACE><SPACE>reboot
blind to reboot the system. So, thank you! Edited dmesg follows:
Nice catch! I figured there would be more bugs of that class but I
didn't find them when I last went searching after turning up one of
them. I'll take another pass through to look for similar bugs.
Hi, thanks for committing the fix!
I noticed one small detail in the diff:
https://cvsweb.netbsd.org/bsdweb.cgi/src/sys/external/bsd/drm2/dist/drm/i915/gt/intel_lrc.c.diff?r1=1.8;r2=1.9;f=h
Just wanted to double-check: shouldn't the `+ 1` on the second line also be multiplied by sizeof(u32)?
I tested the r1.9 change on 11.0_STABLE, but still got a kernel panic.
